music news... GET OVER YOURSELVES!

you know, it's kinda amazing how petty people can be when others get a break. and yes, i'm talking about the smartass comments made by the Diva Duo of Aretha Franklin and Natalie Cole during the last Grammy Awards. for whatever reason apparently fitting to them, they saw fit to open their holier-than thou mouths and speak against two major instances of that awards show.

let's start with the first elephant in the room- and by that, i meant the canary-yellow sized elephant by the name of the "Queen of Soul", Aretha Franklin. now please don't get me wrong, i totally respect this woman, size and all. but the fact that she has the audacity to get her feathers ruffled about Beyonce Knowles announcing Tina Turner as the "Queen" [who was FANTASTIC in that performance- go girl!]- to the point where she had to make a public statement about it? talk about beyond tacky. Tina has worked her ass off to stay fabulous, and the mere fact that she can hold her own and outperform against a much younger Beyonce in a performance at HER age, is commendable in itself. leave the woman alone!
it's not like SHE asked for the title, and it's not like she took YOUR title. let's break it down; "The Queen" vs "The Queen of Soul"


just as i thought: NOT THE SAME THING!

but at least Aretha finished off with a 'no hard feelings' comment in an attempt to be gracious, unlike Natalie Cole, wwho decided in her great wisdom that she would give her opinion about everyone's favorite druggie songbird, Amy Winehouse [and i meant that with all the love in the world], and her spectacular sweep of 5 out of 6 Grammys. to put it in a nutshell, Mrs Cole stated that she thinks Amy should say in rehab [a no-duh comment, but whatevs], and that SOMEHOW, there's a connection between Amy winning those 5 awards, and some form of 'bad behaviour promotion'.

audience, i ask you: WHAT THE FUCK?

since when does an AWARD, decided based on a person's TALENT and musical skills, equal a positive promotion of a drugged up lifestyle? yea, Amy fucked herself up, and she should be in rehab- i'm glad she is, it'd be a damned shame if she turned into another Whitney Houston. and yes, you have some crazy kids who will blindly follow their idols down whatever twisted path they walk. but to suggest that she didn't deserve the recognition? that she didn't deserve to have a chance to perform far away form whatever temptations the awards show might invite, but close enough for family and fans to watch on?

so you mean to tell me that Britney Spears has every right to perform in the middle of HER downward spiral at the VMAs last year, AND make a complete ass of herself, but Amy Winehouse can't perform in the comfort of a little cabaret show across the ocean when she's actually IN rehab?

BRITNEY SPEARS better than Amy?

to that, i call a massive BULLSHIT.


you know what Natalie? if you really want to practice what you preach, here's what i suggest- renounce every single award, praise and goddamn dime that came from the songs that became hits when you were high like a fucking kite. give every one of them back. and tell Whitney Houston to return her royalties too. in fact, every single one of you singers who fall in this category, renounce everything that came to you in that period.

you won't do that, will you.

i thought so. so leave Amy alone. she's in rehab and getting better. fuck off your high horse, and stop being such a goddamned hater. you too Aretha. my god, you all are too goddamn old for you to be squabbling about things like this.
